Mary Middlefield - “Atlantis”

Lausanne, Switzerland-based singer-songwriter Mary Middlefield returns to us with the stripped-back and folksy sounds of “Atlantis.”

The song fades in with some dreamy ambience before making way for the spectacular tones of a softly strummed acoustic guitar. The vibe is raw and inviting, causing the listener to eagerly await Middlefield’s message of all the things she would do for love.

Her vocal delivery is tranquil and breathy, allowing all of us to believe every last line of lyrics within “Atlantis.” Supporting layers of vocals are methodically added at opportune times, providing width and emphasis as the song cascades into our ears.

The arrangement lifts upon the arrival of some deep, rich bass, as well as an elevation of the synthy remnants that lined the intro of the track. Additional stringed instruments also emerge as “Atlantis” ebbs and flows through a myriad of its exposed emotions.

In the final third, the song reaches the peak of its crescendo, passionate and robust as it washes over all who hear. Mary Middlefield never disappoints our wanting ears and “Atlantis” is all the proof you need for that, although, upon hearing it, you may find yourself drawn to her entire catalogue.
