Magz - “For Good”

Magz is from NYC and has just released her new song “For Good,” a beautifully crafted track that takes the listener on a journey through a dreamy and reflective landscape. It is a credit to Magz’s songwriting skills as it is a strong introduction and only the second song taken from her upcoming debut EP. The opening “hooty” keys and vinyl crackle set the tone perfectly, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and, when reflecting on the whole song, maybe a sense of longing for a simpler time. The vocal performance is outstanding, with a powerful, yet emotive delivery.

The clean electric guitar notes and foley sounds create a dreamy sensation that perfectly complements the vocal, while the slightly warped acoustic guitars add depth and texture to the chorus. The second verse is just as sparse and reflective, giving the listener a chance to really take in the lyrics and message of the song that, sometimes, it is hard to fit in, but there are things that we can’t change.

The addition of the reverse kick drum in the last section is a masterful touch, building towards a climax that is both emotional and satisfying. The backing vocals wonderfully circle the main vocal in support, adding another layer of depth. The song ends as it began, with the simple guitar riff and foley sounds, making it a perfect ending to this great little single.

Magz adds: “It’s been said to accept the things you cannot change. You keep on moving, though nothing stays linear. Somehow you find something to hang on to, even when nothings left. Somehow, you're strong but also fragile. But there is strength in fragility, and fragility in strength. My mental health has not been a journey, but an odyssey. I never thought that I would make it to age 25, yet here I am. I hope with this song that people feel less alone in this darkness.”
