Lyrah - “Everyone Else”
Although Lyrah started off her musical career by writing songs for other artists, she’s found a great deal of recent success while following a solo path– her songs have been listed on Spotify’s “Fresh Finds,” Tidal’s “Pop Somber,” and Apple Music’s “Vibes” and “Nightcap.” And if that were not enough, she has also had her music featured in HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls as well as Charmed.
Now that we’ve raised your expectations by rattling off a list of her accolades, let us introduce you to her latest release, “Everyone Else.” The ingredients to this track, at first, are very simple– some listeners might even call it sparse or stripped back, but the fact that Lyrah has created such a monumental sound with just a handful of tools is truly a testament to her craft.
The song begins with keys and vocals, as well as a bit of synth soaring through its background. But these three elements are more than enough and they fill out the sonic landscape quite nicely, with a very open and cinematic sound. Then the beat joins in and it is immediately clear why her music ends up on television. “Everyone Else” has a production value that is on par with the majors and though we are unsure who produced this thing, they could likely earn a healthy living simply by making YouTube tutorials that explain the process. Start to finish, this song is top notch.
Lyrah describes “Everyone Else,” saying it “…feels like sitting in silence with someone you love… I wrote it, wanting this feeling in a relationship. As I finished it, I realized this feeling already existed within my friendships… It’s a love song for the people who already love you.”
