LINNEA - “Lone Star Motel”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter LINNEA is here with her fantastic track, “Lone Star Motel.” She has been writing songs since age sixteen, but this is her first official release and it immediately won us over with its slightly ‘90s vibe, as well as its sonic nods to Sharon Van Etten and Mazzy Star.

Lone Star Motel” opens very shyly, with an acoustic guitar and vocals, channeling the great Hope Sandoval and hooking the listener instantaneously. A slide guitar calls out in the distance and a wonderful harmony lends its hand in delivering the lyrics. The drums momentarily tease our ears, letting us know that this experience is about to become much larger than it initially implied. And as the scope of the track broadens to completely saturate our headphones, we are greeted with the first chorus, with a hook that is bound to get stuck inside the heads of many music lovers.

From there, we head into the second verse with the entire band in tow, picking up the pace a bit, but not so much as to fall off of this gentle vibe of a ride. At this point, anyone listening should be bobbing their heads and marveling at the sonic landscape that interweaves itself between each line of the lyrics. This is a stellar piece of music and we are totally looking forward to what LINNEA sends our way in the future.

LINNEA adds: “I wrote ‘Lone Star Motel’ while I was living between Nashville and Los Angeles. At that time, it didn’t feel as though I had a place I could call “home.” The song is pretty much about running away from all your problems to a motel in the middle of the desert and finding comfort in solitude. The Lone Star Motel is a complete figment of my imagination, but, to me, it feels very real.”
