Anna Hauss “letter_silence on the airwaves”

Anna Hauss from Germany has just released the mesmerizing “letter_silence on the airwaves.” The song is beautifully layered and makes me reach for comparisons like Goldfrapp or Lalo Schifrin… yet I know these comparisons do not do this gorgeous song any justice.

The song’s opening, slow drum pattern immediately establishes a relaxed and reflective mood. The style has hints of jazz, making me reach for the Lalo Schifrin comparison. The upright bass’ presence offers a moody and melancholic foundation, creating a subtle sense on tension and contrast. Pulsating string layers hypnotically pad the song. I am not sure what instrument is being used, whether classical guitar or harp, but it gives a nice, unusual and distinctive texture.

The song gently grows in dynamics and intensity, all the while being lost in the hypnotic groove of the layers. The song builds to a moodier section which adds an additional layer of complexity to this fascinating song. The sonic choices and twists make me think of Goldfrapp’s Felt Mountain. This darker, almost dissonant section is satisfyingly resolved as we are navigated back to the song’s core groove.

The vocal performance is both soothing and expressive. Breathy inflections enhance the inviting, dreamy, and mesmerising atmosphere. As the song progresses, light and ethereal backing vocals are added, which heightens the music’s heavenly feel, again, making me think of Goldfrapp.

The captivating letter_silence on the airwaves“ shows off Anna Hauss‘ talent for crafting excellent songs– it is impossible not to get lost inside of this one. This song is taken from the forthcoming album how long is now.
