Laura Carbone - “Horses”
From Germany, Laura Carbone has just released the sultry and gritty single, “Horses.”
This song gets moving right away, opening with some delightfully delicate “oooh” vocals from Carbone as the rest of the band appears. The tempo is sweet and dreamy, making for a very cinematic production, complete with bass, drums, and some glistening, reverberated guitar. As Carbone begins delivering her lyrics, the song maintains its moody and ethereal vibe– it quickly becomes very clear that she was born to sing.
What completely blows us away with “Horses” is its ability to hit many genres. It contains all of the proper ingredients for an indie rock ballad, the perfect amount of reverb for our tastes within dream pop, and even a hot desert appeal that would cause it to comfortably reside within the vastness of Americana. If music is the vehicle that lets us escape the turbulence of life, climb aboard “Horses” and let it carry you away on a four-minute vacation from reality.
Carbone adds: “The inspiration for “Horses” came to me when I was driving through the Santa Monica Mountains in April 2019 and was deeply moved by the majestic nature surrounding me. It filled me with great humility to witness the incredible strength with which nature reclaimed its existence after the devastating wildfires in the fall of 2018… The song reflects the passion and courage required to stand up for oneself, to embrace something with full force, just like the radiant power and passion of summer or, indeed, horses running freely in their freedom.”
“Horses” comes from Carbone’s upcoming LP, The Cycle, produced by Carbone and her lead guitarist Mark Eric Lewis. The record was mixed by Collin Dupuis (St. Vincent, The Black Keys, Lana Del Rey) and mastered by Philipp Welsing (Original Mastering Hamburg).
