Large Brush Collection - “Arm’s Length”
Austin, TX-based Large Brush Collection have just released the captivating indie folk track “Arm’s Length.” Woven with vibrant and dreamy layers, the song gracefully leads us on a rich and introspective journey.
“Arm’s Length” is built around a meditative arpeggiating bass line that creates a constant sense of movement. The drums gently push the composition forward as muted electric guitar enhances the groove of the bass. Splashes of jangly electric guitar heighten the dreamy vibes as the mellow tones permeate into the spaces. The true sonic highlight is the enchanting flute that soars with clear, bright, and ethereal tones throughout. This instrument infuses the track with a sense of soothing elegance.
“Arm’s Length” has a pleasing ebb and flow that culminates at the musical breaks. In these sections, the instruments burst with a feeling of urgency, intensity, and a slight sense of unpredictability. These sections help underline the lyrical mood present in the track perfectly. The vocals cement the reflective vibes with a pleasing sense of soulfulness as it gently guides us through the composition. The backing vocals exquisitely enhance this feeling with their rich, breezy harmonisation.
Nora, the songwriter and bassist for Large Brush Collection says: “This was the first song I brought to the group when Dan and Gaby and I began playing together, and we all really connected over it. In a way, I think it became the foundation of the band. I wrote the song in front of my apartment a frenzy while I was struggling to write another song on the record, “It’s Only a Matter of Time.” I had just seen the news about the wildfires on the West coast making all the skies in San Francisco a deep orange with smoke, and I thought about the fraught relationships in my life that loomed over me. I felt an overwhelming powerlessness in the face of both.”
The track is introspective, evocative and simply sublime. “Arm’s Length” by Large Brush Collection is taken from the forthcoming album Off Center, which releases July 28th.
