Laughter Lines - “Keep Score”

Laughter Lines is here with “Keep Score,” an Indie pop tune with plenty of peculiarity to please. The song is catchy while eschewing the normal verse/chorus structure we all know and love. A grooving rhythm churns out the intro while the vocal lays down some sweet melody. There is a pulse that carries us through, while a wide range of dynamics and a wonderfully meandering melody balances the essence of familiarity and freshness. In a world of overproduced vocals, the realness (for lack of a better word) is a welcome ingredient. These lyrics will get your mind wandering, thinking about life. The words: “We missed trash day again. Rinse and repeat, surviving the week” usher in a fabulous breakdown-to-build at 1:30 that is done so well, I might get carried away if I attempt to describe it. Please don’t make me describe it. It’s better than any words I have at my disposal. All I can say is you really ought to give “Keep Score” a listen, then “rinse and repeat.”

The artist adds that “Keep Score” was “Inspired by the rising divorce rates during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, in which I coincidentally got married at the cusp of.” Catch Laughter Lines with Hoogenboom this Friday, February 10th, at Landers in San Clemente, CA.
