KAZIMI - “Burn”

We last heard from New York City-based singer-songwriter KAZIMI back in August, but she’s returned to us with the raw and ethereally stripped-back single: “Burn.”

The song opens up with the gorgeous sounds of an acoustic guitar, wonderfully finger-plucked as it beckons the arrival of angelically performed layers of vocals. A second guitar is deployed to emphasize the beginning of each new bar, while a synth swells in the distance. When combined, all of this makes for quite an emotionally stirring soundscape and, already, “Burn” has its hooks in us.

KAZIMI’s vocal arrives, marvelous and glowing as she releases her lyrics into the universe. The performance is slightly reminiscent of both Indigo Sparkle and Adrianne Lenker, though she certainly remains original enough to stand on her own. A deep bass emerges to add weight and depth to the arrangement, assisted by some orchestral percussive elements. The entire listening experience is quite dreamy and introspective, which only adds to its overall appeal.

It’s obvious that a great deal of care went into the song’s production, yet it manages to retain a lo-fi authenticity that provides an immeasurable level of intimacy. Ear candy is provided in the back half via some call-and-response layers of vocals, which will surely have you returning to “Burn” for multiple listens.
