Katie Boeck - “Over Again”

Katie Boeck has a beautiful song for you. “Over Again” is a wonderful example of deceptive musical simplicity that a showcases phenomenal vocal performance. The rhythm is carried by the acoustic guitar and the chord changes are emotionally moving, partly because of their harmonic characteristic but mostly because of the way they support Katie’s transcendent singing. Lyrically, it’s a compelling message of contemplation and acceptance and she sings: “You wouldn’t do it different if you could do it over again.” This song gets me right in the “you get me” place in my heart. It sounds soooo good. Subtle flourishes of sound swell in the background to expand the intimate sensation that the guitar and vocal provides, but it’s the melodic and harmonic maturity that brings an incomprable richness to the tune. With songcraft of this caliber, it’s no wonder that she has had some great song placements in film and television. I look forward to her new album, Calico, which is set for release this year.
