Jenny XII - “Marissa’s Song”
Denver, Colorado-based indie rock trio Jenny XII arrive on our blog with their latest release: “Marissa’s Song.”
In lieu of an intro, Jenny XII have opted to dive right into a full band production, complete with a bouncing rhythm comprised of tightly bound bass and drums. This foundation fully supports the vibrantly displayed guitar work as it floats dreamily throughout the arrangement. And although the band is comfortably nestled within the realm of indie rock, it is this more dreamy and ethereal side of their experimental tendencies that has brought “Marissa’s Song“ to our site.
Like the reverberating and effected guitar tones, the vocals have followed suit, adopting a more melodic character that brings an overall nostalgic sense to the track. The performance is enhanced by some constant and subtle harmonies that make it very easy to forget about your worldly troubles, leaving them behind for a more introspective vibe. Ear candy comes by way of expertly placed notes from a lead guitar, which ensures the attention of all who hear.
A major highlight within “Marissa’s Song“ is, of course, the hook, which brings a hefty dose of indie rock prowess without being cheapened by the overuse of distortion. The drums simply hit a bit harder, double-timed with additional layers of guitar draped in. The soft keys of a piano are magnificently deployed, along with a fantastic acoustic guitar performance, giving us something new to love with each and every listen. Patient listeners shall be rewarded with a glorious outro, finalized with victorious bells and layers of backing vocals for days.
