Jay Hurtt VI from the USA has just released the cinematically sprawling indie psych track “wanna watch TV.”

wanna watch TV” is anchored around a rich, resonant piano that fleshes out the melody with the feeling that the reverb sounds are flickering hazily around you. Almost as if you are in a dimly lit room looking over a city skyline at night. Grand, ebbing and flowing, the song soon gains a swaggering, punchy, nocturnal beat that fluidly propels us forward into a voluptuous groove.

The sonic embellishments that surround this core, like refracted light, are what truly gives “wanna watch TV” a psychedelic flare. Much in the same way DARKSIDE paint their lush, weightless dreamscapes of sound. Abstract, backmasked, swirling, these auditory treats swell with a hallucinogenic elegance as if you are being submerged in rich velvet.

Like a nocturnal lullaby, Jay Hurtt VI serves up a soulful, almost R&B-esque vocal performance for this shimmering track. The mix though is submerged in the music allowing the warping and excellent use of effects to bring a unique sense of intimacy and immersiveness to the delivery.

Written with the help of Rick Rubin, the lyrics are just as much of a dream sequence exploring escapism, wonder, curiosity almost as if you are watching a looping broadcast on your TV. Spacious, grooving, soul stirring, “wanna watch TV” is one hell of a slick track. This one will please all modern psych fans.
