UK-based Iain Mann has teamed up with Sandy’s from the USA to release the retro-tinged indie rock track, “Family Glass.”

The song is founded around the tones of electric lead guitar that weave melodically across the composition. The slow, mellow arpeggiating sounds imbue a sense of introspection, melancholy, and nostalgia, as well as a striking sense of sincerity. Adding warmth and depth is a bright, soulful organ. The atmosphere of this rich texture heightens the retro mood, especially before we reach the crescendo as it expressively solos. The use of this layer as an integral element in the arrangement brings to mind songs from the 1960s, such as “A Whiter Shade of Pale” or “Gimme Some Lovin’.”

Pushing the song forward is a drum groove that has a slight off-kilter vibe. This delightfully injects a textural and rhythmic variation whilst giving a loose, casual vibe. Underneath, bass harmonically supports heightening the emotional impact with subtle variations. The vocal performance is gentle, wistful and soulful, leading us through the track with an elegant sense of melody. It is beautifully supported in all the right places by reflective backing vocals.

On the track’s meaning, Iain Mann adds: “swirling numb haze of confusion in 5/4. Love, looking like a ‘graphic novel heroine’ comes to help me lose my mind.” “Family Glass” is a pleasing nostalgic gem that would make the perfect addition to any music lover’s playlist. All the elements are charmingly arranged, allowing it to be a textural and immersive delight. The song is taken from the album, Magic Tracks, which is out now. Supporting the release, Royal Oakie Records have pressed the album on CD and cassette, which you can purchase here.
