roger weeks - “i think i love u”
We’ve been waiting for new music from roger weeks ever since receiving “North Dakota” back in May. As luck would have it, “i think i love u” has arrived in our inbox and we are more than happy to share it with you here today.
“i think i love u” begins in a very dark and gritty fashion, which is exactly how we prefer music of the folk variety. There is a very DIY and lo-fi vibe occurring here, primarily accomplished with some gently strummed acoustic guitar, which is perfectly suitable for the raw emotion conveyed through the song’s subject matter. With the arrival of the rhythm, weeks begins the soft and delicate journey with his voice, as though trusting the world enough to share a secret– hopeful words that might inspire a learning experience for all who hear.
weeks dredges through the insecurities and fears that simultaneously arrive with falling in love, which are often more difficult to digest while still in the closet. And while our hearts break with every delivered line, there’s no one else from whom we’d rather hear this story. A highlight for us, as far as the arrangement is concerned, is the ethereal and cinematic backing vocals that appear after the second chorus. It’s a glorious element in songwriting and one that we wish more artists would take advantage of– here, it serves as a dreamlike segue into the song’s final hook, complete with weeks’ emotional falsetto.
“i think i love u” is bound to resonate with anyone who’s ever felt the overwhelming fear that can accompany love, and we foresee it finding its way into all of the playlists designed for heavy introspection. In any case, we simply cannot wait to see what weeks comes up with next.
