Homesickness - “I Thank Thee…”

From Copenhagen, Denmark, Homesickness has just released the spectral “I Thank Thee Whom I Found in the Hills.”

I Thank Thee Whom I Found in the Hills” is a spellbinding track that has notes of John Martyn as well as Talk Talk running through its chamber pop veins. Celestial, melancholic, the song meditatively swells from the slow burning acoustic guitar foundation. A tapestry of orchestral elements and ripples of glowing electric piano dance with woozy electric guitar lines and a slow drum beat. Dreamlike sequences of opiated texture are blissfully thrown in for good measure in the musical break.

Deeply intimate and awash with folkish harmonies, the detached, conversational in phrasing, yet heartfelt vocal performance flows as if coming from a man who is staring out across the sea. The words gracefully unravel and curl with soothing intensity heightening the blissed-out reverie of the hypnotising music. Lyrically, the track is a response to the fifty-three-year-old song by Sibylle Baier, “I Lost Something in the Hills.”

Malthe Junge, songwriter for Homesickness, adds: “While Baier’s song seems to lament a metaphysical object - something intangible yet significant, my interpretation transforms this object into a presence; to me, it represents a being or entity embodying healing and care. My song is a hymn of joy and hope, a reminder of renewal and resilience in the face of despair.”

Devastatingly beautiful, “I Thank Thee Whom I Found in the Hills” is taken from Homesickness’ forthcoming album, Anamnesis, slated for release March 21st.
