Helenor - “Bad2”

USA-based Helenor has just shared new song “Bad2.” Dreamy and textured, the song is impossible not to get lost in as it paints a world of lyrical introspection.

You will love the dreamy and warm tones from this traditional indie pop release as soon as you hear the acoustic rhythm guitars and lo-fi synths that gracefully meander within the melodic lines. The music is like a gentle embrace. Warm tones from the acoustic guitars satisfyingly appear in the mix as the slow groove is established. The stripped-back drums create a methodical and leisurely cadence as the bass softly gives depth.

For me, one of the most notable aspects on “Bad2 is its use of synthesisers. Their flowing, reversed nature not only adds melodic ear candy, but also weaves a rich, even hallucinogenic tone into the arrangement. Their ambience perfectly matches the song’s overall dreamlike atmosphere as they wobble and intensify.

As the song progresses, subtle and gritty electric guitar adds a slight contrast in texture whilst lending a sense of dynamic growth. The vocals have a cool and casual tone as they softly deliver the lyrics. Backing vocals over key areas provide a gentle support which heightens the sensation of width and depth. Lyrically, Helenor adds: “This is a soundtrack for pretending you have the ability to be present, when it's obvious that ship has sailed. Bad2 is a ball and a chain and a weighted walk-through vitamin D filled summer day. It’s also a little bit about growing up with Christian guilt.”

Bad2“ is a captivating voyage through a sonically gorgeous sounds whether it is the warm acoustic guitar tones or the flourishes of lo-fi synths that tinge this song with psychedelic tones. This track is the second single from their upcoming LP, A public place, which will release later this year.
