Harrison Storm - “Daylight Sun”

Melbourne-based Harrison Storm returns to us with the delightful warmth of his craft in the form of a new single: “Daylight Sun.”

We first featured the music of Storm back in July, upon the release of “In Good Time,” a remarkable addition to the world of indie folk. Today, you will be happy to know that he comes bearing the same gifts. “Daylight Sun” begins as a gently strummed acoustic number, wide with reverb, but careful to leave enough room for Storm’s shining vocal performance.

And if you have never had the pleasure of Storm’s voice entering your ears, you will soon understand why would could not say no to this track. As far as we’re concerned, the fact that he cut his teeth listening to City and Colour, Angus Stone, and Jeff Buckley must have had some sort of mystical influence on the vocalist that he became– his voice is the lovely truth of the world.

Daylight Sun” does not remain a sparse acoustic song for long, as the end of the first verse brings an expanded arrangement, including an optimistic rhythm that reflects the song’s subject matter. Though you can find a better explanation on Storm’s TikTok, the track offers a shining beam of healing light to those suffering in silence– this is exactly the reason we listen to music in the first place.

If this song does not win you over with its magnificent layers of vocals, the gentle, reverberating guitar lead will finish the job in all of its ethereal glory. “Daylight Sun” is a wonderful slice of cinematic folk music and will likely encourage you to do a bit of soul searching and reflection, which is precisely why we are so drawn to the genre.
