Grace Pettis - “Joy”
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Grace Pettis has just released the soulful Americana track, “Joy,” which is about finding the ‘joy’ in life.
“Joy” opens with the rich, warbling tones of a tremolo electric guitar that pulsates shimmering chords throughout the composition. The tones delightfully evoke a sense of laid-back nostalgia, subtly enhanced by a dreamy electric piano. The acoustic guitar further enriches the texture with a well-defined rhythmic backbone. Adding depth to the composition is the breathy, soulful ambience of an organ, infusing a reflective warmth.
As “Joy“ progresses, the musical elements are exquisitely used to elevate the composition to bring impact to the track’s emotional sentiment. The drums grow in strength pushing the song forward with a sense of ease whilst the warm bass riffs melodically underneath. Melodic, full-bodied trumpets rousingly begin to accompany with velvety, expressive, layered harmonies.
It is the vocals, though, that steal the show on this track. Grace Pettis has a delivery that is strikingly soulful, full of emotive phrasing and dynamic variation. The performance elegantly navigates from intimacy to powerful climaxes that swell with emotion. If that is not enough, the gospel choir adds a lush, authentic, contemplative harmonising support, deepening the nostalgic vibes of the track even further.
“Joy” is an incredibly atmospheric track that is brimmed full of tender moments to rousing flourishes of stirring delight. The track is the third single to be taken from Grace Pettis’ forthcoming LP, Down To The Letter, due out June 14th via MPress Records.
