Gemini Parks - “Up All Night”
Gemini Parks is the genre-bending funk project of Kansas City musician Josh Berwanger… And he has just released his debut single and end of summer party banger “Up All Night.”
The song is designed to make you slow bop and dance with a drink in your hand, but the flamboyant nature implies that the drink is more likely going to be a Bacardi and Coke, rather than a can of Red Stripe. "Up All Night" finds its groove with a funk bass line punctuated by a simple drum pattern.
The main aspect of the song is the deliberately massive chorus which, of course, makes this a total banger. The quieter moments of this song, however, remind me of the hand of Damon Albarn as there is definitely a Gorillaz vibe.
Berwanger says that this track “has some party vibes going on, but lyrically it touches on lonerism. It's a song about enjoying the adventure of discovery. Whether it's in oneself, out on the road or in a substance...”
