Say Anise - “For Tomorrow”

It is our pleasure to once again bring you the music of London-based singer-songwriter Emily Barnett, aka Say Anise. She never ceases to amaze us with her skillfully crafted melodies and today we feature her latest single, “For Tomorrow.”

This gentle, folksy number contains some delicately hand-picked ingredients, such as the warmth from a carefully plucked acoustic guitar, a bit of bass, a gentle rhythm, and some soft, synthy keys that offer a great deal of atmosphere. And when you mix it all up, the resulting melancholic arrangement nestles itself right within our genre niche. Barnett’s vocal, however, has always been one her music’s finest features.

Within “For Tomorrow,” the vocals have been carefully layered on the hook, featuring a strong harmony that is bound to immediately pique the interest of any music lover. As our blog approaches the one-year anniversary of its inception, we have grown very fond of music with layered vocals, as a good harmony or double will fill out the sparseness of the genre, while widening the sonic space of the production– that is exactly the case with this song.

If you’ve never heard Say Anise, you are in for quite the dreamy experience, as she has a knack for providing one’s ears with ethereal and cinematic soundscapes. We are confident that everyone will find something that they love within “For Tomorrow,” from the gentle vibe of its rhythm to its graceful and endearing vocal performance.

Barnett adds: “‘For Tomorrow’ was the first of this collection of songs I’m releasing this year that we recorded, back in April last year. It’s about not wanting to have to wait anymore for the life that you want.” And though many of us will continue to wait for the lives we’ve always dreamed of having, the wait is over for new music from Say Anise as soon as you press the play button.
