Montreal-based goth-folk songwriter Flower Face has just released the magnificent new track, “Cat’s Cradle.”

This introspective offering explores the fine line between adoration and obsession through intoxicatingly dreamy and moody textures and vocals “Cat’s Cradle” opens to the nostalgic and melancholic sound of a rising and falling whistle. This grabs the listener’s attention as the mellow acoustic guitar sets an intimate and vulnerable foundation for the composition.

Layers are applied thoughtfully on top as the song progresses, beautifully enhancing the rich meditative serenity. Cinematic string layers gracefully punctuate the emotional intensity of the lyrics with elegant flourishes, creating a subtle current of tension. High key lines on the piano imbue a sense of ethereal yearning, whist electric guitar is used sparingly to enrich the sonic palette further.

Flower Face’s sultry and hushed vocals are strikingly coated in a feeling of mystery and intrigue. The performance is delightfully nuanced, allowing a variety of emotions to be conveyed, from sweet tenderness to palpable fragility.

Speaking about her song, Flower Face shares: “It’s about obsession, infatuation, and the way these things can be mistaken for love. It’s dangerous, especially if you’re in a vulnerable place, heartbroken, lonely. It can feel so good to fixate on somebody, to let yourself live in a fantasy world especially when the real world doesn’t feel comfortable or fulfilling. You take an outline of a person and fill it with all of your energy and emotion and desire - and it’s destructive, because then you don’t realize how empty it is.”

Cat’s Cradle” is a strikingly captivating and immersive track, brimming with raw passion and yearning. There is a beautiful current of authenticity running through all of the layers, making this composition overwhelmingly compelling. This song is definitely not one to miss.
