Fences - “Thin Legs” & “No One”
Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Christopher Mansfield, aka Fences, has released a couple tracks from his upcoming LP, Bright Soil.
“Thin Legs” is a hypnotizing and introspective song that perfectly captures the feeling of exhaustion and wanting to escape. The clean electric guitar forms the foundation of the song, emitting warm, arpeggiated lines as the lead guitar subtly plays a recurring melodic riff. A layer of acoustic guitar underneath adds to the warmth of the track. The drums have a nice smooth texture as the bass contrasts with a dark, throbbing sound.
Mansfield’s vocal is performed coolly, but there is a nice weight in the tone as the lyrics are delivered. The song gains additional emotional depth through the breathy female background vocals, which heighten the feeling of longing and desire. The song's lyrics, which explore the themes of tiredness and the desire to flee, are beautiful and introspective, leaving it very relatable and emotionally impactful.
“No One” is a slightly more upbeat offering, with playful “doo dee doo” vocal lines that take away from the more abrasive subject matter, as Mansfield describes the turbulent journey of his life. The urgency of the track is echoed through its anxious tempo and is proof that Fences will succeed in whichever style he chooses to write.
Both, “Thin Legs” and “No One” give a fairly substantial look into what the heart of Bright Soil will entail and we are very much looking forward to having a listen to the entire body of work upon its release in August. Until then, join us in playing the hell out of these two singles as Fences is definitely one to watch.
