Big Society - “Fading Fast”
“Fading Fast,” a brand-new song by Big Society, is undoubtedly a slow-grooving number and one that is instantly catchy. The song is the third single from their new EP, A Quick One, While We're Waiting, which is definitely work checking out, especially if you recall our review of “Billy.”
On this tune, the drums are really snappy, relentlessly laying down a powerful beat that wonderfully frames the song. The track’s main groove is driven by the rhythm guitar, which has a muted quality, chugging along, underneath the main elements. The singer effortlessly sings the lines from beginning to end, and the choruses rise beautifully.
The lead guitar reminds me of some of the sounds on Brian Eno's album, Another Green World. The main riff is simple and beautiful. At the song's conclusion, the guitar intensifies and, for me, there are unmistakable Robert Fripp vibes and a smudge of noise crescendos. This song's padding sounds are quite ethereal, and I'm not entirely sure what they are. It has flute-like tones in several spots. Lyrically, “Fading Fast” is about having a serious crush on someone and being willing to stay up all night with them until morning comes.
