Attawalpa - “Estamos Vivos”
Following the release of his debut album, Presence, last year, Attawalpa, a.k.a British Peruvian artist Luis Felber, has now shared his latest single, “Estamos Vivos.”
“Estamos Vivos” is a synth-driven, groovy track that starts with an airy, ambient landscape. The drums kick in, setting a slow, steady groove that is complimented by the sparse, acidic synth sounds that pulse into the gaps, forming a funky melody. The variety of synth pads used throughout the song continue to shape and build the track, while the use of percussion adds a layer of interesting ear candy.
The song has a slight 1980s feel to it, for me, but in a subtle and tasteful way– not in a moustache and perm sort of way. It is difficult to describe, but you will know when you listen. The lyrics and chorus are catchy and sung in a relaxed, breezy fashion, perfectly fitting the overall vibe of the song. The later acoustic and electric piano break is unexpected, but adds a nice touch of colour to the song’s character. The track slowly dies back to strings, with a growing, live drum kit sound. The bass line is fantastic, particularly at the end, where it gives a slight hint of the very end of Pink Floyd's “Pigs,” which adds an extra layer of depth to the song. Overall, “Estamos Vivos” is a slow grooving and catchy slice of old fashioned rock/pop.
