Emma Frances - “Honey”
From San Diego, singer-songwriter Emma Frances returns to the blog with “Honey,” an upbeat, folksy ditty from her forthcoming EP, Caverns of Youth.
“Honey” does not take long to begin its whimsically enchanting journey, briefly fading in with the tones of an organ before being joined by a bouncy acoustic guitar performance. Across the top, the exquisite sounds of a pedal steel permeate the sonic space and we are immediately drawn into the vibrant, classic production.
Emma’s vocal shortly arrives, wonderfully imbuing the track with a nostalgically rich vibe– one of the reasons we first became so enthralled with her music. Between her vocal performance, the delightfully utilized layers of backing vocals, and the barebones rhythm section, “Honey” almost has a sort of 1940s appeal.
While the entire track is truly a pleasure to have in your ears, the middle eight brings a glorious dynamic shift, shining a spotlight on the pedal steel. And though it is bound to resonate with music lovers across multiple generations, it is not at all difficult to imagine “Honey” bursting from the stage of a good, old-fashioned speakeasy.
