Elvira Alfaro - “just like that”

When Elvira Alfaro’s new song, “just like that,” was pitched to us, it was said to be “perfect for late night rides and laid-back listening sessions.” And we are pleased to inform you that this Swedish singer-songwriter did not disappoint.

From its initial, softly sung intro, it is quite obvious that “just like that” is one of those tracks that is destined to lodge itself within your spirit and stir up some old, potentially forgotten emotions. Its subject matter uncovers the process of being close to someone who is now nothing more than a stranger. And while this experience is unfortunately quite common, Alfaro delivers it in such a way that heartbreak now has its own soundtrack.

Alfaro’s vocal is at first accompanied solely by the confident plucks of an acoustic guitar, but more elements appear as the track continues, beginning with the distant sounds of some soft percussion. The melody expands for the chorus, revealing a vulnerable falsetto as Alfaro describes the abrupt conclusion to a love affair– she sings with such emotion that listeners are obliged to believe every single word.

Some soft bass is occasionally added to thicken the sound, especially around the refrain. As the song enters into its conclusion, an ethereal synth cuts through the arrangement, adding substantial width to the soundscape. However, the star of “just like that” is, of course, Alfaro’s vocal performance, as it manages to maintain a very raw and vulnerable delivery throughout the song’s duration.

Once you’ve pressed play, we are confident that you will find a new song to add to those playlists you listen to when it appears that all hope for love is lost. “just like that” comes from Elvira Alfaro’s new EP, in love with a feeling, which is now available everywhere:
