Elvira Alfaro - “INDIGO”
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: some of the world’s best music comes from Sweden. And Elvira Alfaro is definitely no exception, as she has completely blown us away with her new track, “INDIGO.”
The song begins with a nostalgic whirring of a tape machine and synth before evolving into a glistening guitar and gentle rhythm. In a matter of seconds, Alfaro begins delivering the lyrics to listeners, with her soft and delicate voice beholding a variety of flavors from modern favorites, such as Lizzy McAlpine and Phoebe Bridgers. It is the kind of vocal that immediately enchants you, and there is no choice but to hear the rest of the song.
The rhythm drops out for a brief dynamic break, and Alfaro climbs steeply into a lovely falsetto, which is quite an emotional experience in and of itself. However, what we were not expecting was the complete left turn the arrangement takes into the realm of indie rock. Suddenly, our ears are surrounded by a driving beat and distorted guitar, and it becomes immediately clear that Alfaro took extra time and care with writing this one.
As “INDIGO” continues, more elements are added, ensuring that every listener remains engaged for its duration. The last third of the song is spent within that glorious taste of distorted elevation that we heard earlier, with an arpeggiated melody that will weave its way straight into your brain, forcing you to repeatedly press play on this number.
We enjoyed “INDIGO” so much that we perused Elvira Alfaro’s back catalogue, where we found “Piece Of You” and “Vending Machine.” And after listening to these, it has become abundantly clear that she is one to watch, as each song has the ability to span multiple genres, from dream pop to folk, to indie rock and back again. We certainly hope that this is not the last time she sends us something to hear.
