Ella Jinks - “The In Between”
From Walthamstow, East London, singer-songwriter Ella Jinks has just released the folk-driven sounds of “The In Between.”
The track is built upon a foundation of bright yet softly strummed acoustic guitar chords, delicately shifting from major to minor and imbuing “The In Between” with a melancholic, vintage glow. In the distance, the reverberating notes from a ghostly lead guitar fill in the gaps of the sonic space, effectively drawing in the listener.
Like most of Jinks’ music, it is her raw and soothing vocal performance that ultimately wins us over. The universe has blessed her with a voice that commands the attention of all who hear, with just the right amount of breathiness to deliver an authentic sense of character– it is this quality that allows each word she sings to be completely believable.
At roughly thirty seconds in, the rest of the band arrives, complete with a light, but energetic beat and smooth, deep notes from a bass. And even as these additional elements assume their rightful position, “The In Between” does not waver from its intimate course. The track resides in this robust state for much of its duration, with Jinks reaching into her upper register to punctuate the refrain.
An additional layer of vocals finds its place in the arrangement, with multiple auxiliary textures that cause the lyrics to rise and swell in glorious waves of mellifluous sound. “The In Between” is a folksy slice of adult contemporary that you can now hear everywhere you get your music. Please join us in spinning it as we await the release of Jink’s EP of the same name, slated for a March 27th release.
