Elijah Wolf - “Fading”
Brooklyn-based Elijah Wolf has just released “Fading,” a fantastic and gritty jaunt that is sure to get your head bobbin’ and your toes tappin’. And we are well aware of how cliché that sounds, but a few seconds into this number and you’ll agree that we had no choice.
The recording of “Fading” that we received included some room noise at the beginning that we truly hope is on the official release because this aspect always seems to bring a level of humanness to the music. And once the drums and guitar begin, we are near certain that it has been crafted by honest, hardworking band folk. Though it might seem silly to point this out, in this day and age, it is becoming increasingly rare and, in short, we are immediately fans of Wolf’s work.
The vocal shortly appears, unscathed by autotune as Wolf confidently delivers the lyrics to our ears. His voice is authentic and sincere and, once the harmonies arrive, the result is aural bliss. The arrangement has been wonderfully rounded out with bass and some acoustic guitar– we even hear some tambourine in there, each element contributing more and more to this idea of authentic and folksy indie rock and roll.
The fluctuation within the production is fantastic, elevating ever so slightly for the refrain. And at just around the midpoint of “Fading,” we are rewarded with a glorious dynamic break that slowly builds into the final crescendo. The remaining instrumental then carries the listener through to the end of the song, beholding a gentle fadeout that beckons you to press play over and over again.
