Draumr - “Slowly Burning Feelings”
Perhaps we’re getting soft in our old age, but there’s something truly magnificent occurring within Draumr’s new release, “Slowly Burning Feelings.” The France-based songwriter has utilized layers of nostalgia inside of this synthpop delight, forcing the listener to conjure up emotional memories thought to be long forgotten.
The track kicks off with a lo-fi intro, reminiscent of the ‘80s in all of its glory. “Slowly Burning Feelings” soon erupts into a full-blown electro ballad, complete with a rhythm section that would rival anything you’ve ever heard by Men Without Hats or Pet Shop Boys. For us, it brings back begging our parents to take us to the arcade; for some of you, you probably weren’t even born yet.
The main appeal for us here, other than the flood of our childhood hopes and dreams, is the way Draumr is able to find a terrific balance between the chart toppers of yesteryear and today’s modern sounds of dream pop. The vocal performance is simply fantastic, highly emotive as it delves “into questions of attachment, vulnerability, and the search for connection.”
Over its close-to-five-minute runtime, listeners will undergo the wonder of layered vocal harmonies on the hook and an arrangement that runs the gamut of synthy pop production, including what sounds to be an electro-choir over the middle eight. As to be expected with most of the dream pop we feature on the blog, this one would go perfectly with an evening drive up (or down) the coastline. Fans of Air and Tame Impala are going to completely fall in love with “Slowly Burning Feelings.”
