Devarrow - “Holy Ghost”

From Halifax, Nova Scotia, singer-songwriter Graham Ereaux, aka Devarrow, returns to us with “Holy Ghost,” the next single from his forthcoming LP, Heart Shaped Rock.

We have featured every song that Devarrow has sent our way, and pressing play on “Holy Ghost” will immediately justify this. The track begins with a chugging, upbeat acoustic guitar, injecting the production with a raw and intimate vibe that has been carefully designed to capture the listener’s attention.

The vocal of Devarrow emerges, wonderfully following suit, maintaining the gritty aesthetic of the folksy soundscape. “Holy Ghost” remains locked into this energetic intimacy for the span of the verse, then kicks it up a notch for an ear-worm chorus, as Devarrow soars into his upper register upon the arrival of the rhythm section.

Holy Ghost” is a blistering beast of a folk song, constantly riding the barrier that separates it from the genre of indie rock– seemingly only one distortion pedal away from falling over the edge. In less than two minutes, Devarrow throws everything at the listener, including a scorching guitar solo that burns the song completely in half.

With such a quick runtime, you have no excuse not to squeeze “Holy Ghost” into your daily-listening regimen. Do it now; thank us later– and be sure to keep an eye out for the October 4 release of Heart Shaped Rock.
