David Berg - “Mexico”

David Berg’s latest release, “Mexico,” is a beautiful indie folk song that showcases his talent for crafting warm and reflective tracks. The acoustic guitar that opens the song begins by fingerpicking before transitioning into a slow strumming pattern that holds the song in a steady groove. The guitar’s tone is gentle and warm.

Mexico feels very dreamy and introspective and I like how David has created this with a wonderfully stripped back arrangement. The only additional instrumentation to the acoustic guitars is the soft tapping of what sounds like piano. This helps add to the song’s groove, but also creates a longing from its tone. As the song steadily progresses, the dynamics grow, which gives the song a satisfying feel.

The vocals compliment the instrumentation nicely because they are breathy, reflective, and gentle. The backing vocals perfectly add to the mood and bring weight to the lyrics. Lyrically, the song describes leaving the painful and difficult feelings of a relationship and finding consolation in Mexico. The lyrics feel heartfelt and thoughtful and nicely capture the sentiment of looking for solace and healing in a new location.

Mexico” is a wonderful song that showcases David Berg’s talent for crafting beautiful and emotive indie folk tracks. Definitely one to check out.
