Otto Aday - “Dancing Round The Morning Sun”

UK-based Otto Aday has just released the indie pop / rock tune “Dancing Round The Morning Sun.” The track blends gorgeous vintage tones and textures and will leave you wanting more.

The song begins with a pulsating kick drum and ascending guitar lines that create a great sense of tension. This tension is released, bringing us deeper into the song as we enter the first verse. The song is richly driven by a bright, acoustic guitar. The tones offer a dreamy layer that contrasts with the darker tones of the other instruments. The drums are coupled with playful handclaps, which offers a thoughtful and unique layer. The bass warmly pulses underneath, helping to glue the track together.

The melody and structure of the track have a classic feel, as if the song has drawn inspiration form the golden era of the 1960s and 1970s. This retro mood is most evident over the chorus sections, where lively backing vocals help to enhance the melody. Otto Aday offers an understated but exquisite vocal performance on this track. The tones are gentle as we are led through the song’s lyrics. This approach helps to contrast some of the darker tones whilst giving an introspective quality.

“I started the song writing about my childhood, thinking back on memories of hide and seek and how easy life was.” Otto elaborates. “The verses are about the impurities and hardships that get in the way of that easy life.”

Dancing Round The Morning Sun” is a good, old-fashioned indie pop / rock song. It instantly has a feeling of familiarity and, after a few plays, becomes one of those ear worms we all love. “Dancing Round The Midnight Sun” is taken from Otto Aday’s new 12-song LP, Persona.
