Crystal Rose - “Falling Up”
Currently based in Brooklyn, Crystal Rose has been compared to the likes of Janet Jackson, Frou Frou, Diana Ross, Björk, and Minnie Riperton. She has been in and out of bands since the age of thirteen, which only makes sense that her music, at this point, is absolutely sensational. She has honed her craft and found her sound and we are delighted to share with you her latest, “Falling Up.”
Piano pours through my speakers and my heart swells. Crystal Rose has put together a fine song with “Falling Up.” As you luxuriate in the sound of those beautiful vocals, you can’t help but wonder what kind of wizardry was involved in creating this magical musical moment. This would fit nicely with Billie Eilish-type of songs, but it presents its own unique sound. When the bass finally arrives after three minutes, you know what a gentle crescendo is all about. Layers of synths and vocals swirl and sooth. Ah, such a jewel of a song. Please make sure you don’t miss this gem!
Crystal Rose adds, “‘Falling Up’ started as a haunting guitar piece that my collaborator Emi Trevena shared with me. Around the time he wrote it, a special young jazz musician in my Brooklyn community passed away. I began writing to his piece with this friend and musician in mind. The guitars, floating vocals, and cinematic arrangement create the essence of the story. My hope is that “Falling Up” will remind us all of our humanness.”
“Falling Up” comes from Crystal Rose’s newly released EP, Anew, and if you like what you hear here, you’re going to fall in love with the entire thing.
