Minus Satellite, a review

In an age where you can throw a rock and hit someone who records songs in their bedroom, Minus Satellite sound way too fucking big to fit inside any home recording studio. With their track, “Forté,” you have three dudes who seemingly took the frustration that COVID brought to everyone and decided to form a band in order to release it. While they have only been around since 2021, this track sounds as good as any veterans on the hardcore scene. The first few seconds of screeching feedback tell the listener “We brought our amps, so strap the fuck in.” (And I apologize for my use of fuck, but once you hear this song, it will make sense.)

That said, they wrote UpToHear for a review of their new song, “Mechanical Waves,” so here we go. After listening to “Forté,” it lends the time to catch one’s breath a bit and patch those wounds. It is much slower, at first, and really gives the listener a chance to hear the empathetic and, dare I say, tenderness of Adam Mortaro’s vocals: “Am I alive or just awake? Carry me up to outer space,” a refrain many of us have said to ourselves over the past two years. In true “this-is-a-slower-song, but-wait-for-it” form, things start to get thrown at your face again at about three minutes in. This trio is as good as any signed act and I would not be surprised if they blew up as soon as they get a couple more songs under their belts.
