Charlie Bishop - “Apple Seeds”

Prepare your ears for just over two minutes of raw, musical magic and immerse yourselves fully within the gritty sounds of “Apple Seeds,” the remarkable new song from Boston-based Charlie Bishop.

Upon making his way across the country, Bishop penned “Apple Seeds” and recorded the demo with his phone. As he later tried to recreate it using quality gear, he could not abandon the grainy, authentic feel of the original. And, as luck would have it, that is precisely what we’ve been left with, as there is simply no substitute for the genuine honesty found within this production.

For a phone recording, the acoustic guitar has been wonderfully captured, imbuing “Apple Seeds” with a lo-fi and intimate vibe, straight out of the gate. And while we could listen to this sound all day, the star of the show is Bishop’s vocal, warmly over-driven and reminiscent of Gregory Alan Isakov (one of our favorite folk singers of all time). The lyrics paint a vivid portrait of finding hope as you await the calm that tends to follow every storm.

The round, deep notes of a bass soon find their way into the arrangement, followed by a sparse drum pattern and luminous tones from a variety of keys, both digital-based and analog. But even with all of these additional elements, “Apple Seeds” never once abandons its demo-like sincerity and we hope that this is simply the first of many songs Bishop records in this fashion, as we would be more than happy to feature each and every one of them.
