Newcastle, AU-based singer-songwriter Bree Rusev returns to the blog with “Finish Line,” a stripped-back offering of indie folk that contemplates the unpredictability of life.

Finish Line” gets listeners started with the sweet strums of some raw and lo-fi acoustic guitar, wonderfully setting a folksy vibe. We do not have to wait long before Rusev’s vocal arrives, wonderfully maintaining the intimacy of the production, entering the ears as though she’s performing the track right in front of you. She has been blessed with a voice that is capable of delivering emotional and breathy lyrics that convey a grand sense of honesty, forcing the listener to believe every word.

As “Finish Line” progresses, the arrangement picks up some passengers, including the thick tones of a barebones rhythm section which adds a great deal of weight to the sonic landscape. Swells of keys arrive beneath the refrain, providing the song with a wondrous lift. And patience shall reward you with a delicately subdued vocal harmony, perfect for those late-night listening sessions when music is the only thing in the world that seems to make sense.

At the peak of its crescendo, “Finish Line” offers music lovers some gloriously ethereal cries from the pedal steel, before ultimately resolving in an outro that is just as stripped-back and heartfelt as the song’s beginning. This track provides a place for you to store all of the uncertainties you have in this world and is a wonderfully mellifluous companion as you try to figure out which path to take.

Finish Line” was recorded and produced by Garrett Kato and arrives ahead of Rusev’s forthcoming EP. Connect with Bree Rusev online: Spotify | Instagram | TikTok | Facebook
