Blue Lupin - “Sleep On It”
Blue Lupin, aka Joanna Wolfe, has just released “Sleep On It,” and we decided to blog about it without even blinking (see what we did there?). This track comes from her new EP, Satellite People, named after the period of time when none of us were allowed to leave our homes and did our best to do everything ‘via satellite’.
Quite honestly, we did not know that this track was a home recording until we read about it– there is nothing about “Sleep On It” that lends any evidence to support this fact. It begins with an ethereal and moody piano performance, drawing you in before Wolfe begins her incredible vocal work– which just so happens to be reminiscent of all of our favorite indie folksters (we’ve already mentioned them so many times on the blog that doing so again might just break the internet). But make no mistake, lads and lasses, for this is not a folk song.
Introverts will find some solace in this track– while some of us utilized quarantine to start blogs so we could write about music, others, like Wolfe, wrote music about introversion. Both the lyrics and the song’s gentle, dream pop rhythm are bound to sync up with your tender heartbeat. “Sleep On It” also has a natural crescendo to it, ultimately growing into a full production with a moody rhythm section that guides the keys, adding more elements as it continues on its magnificent path. However, the last third of the song gently morphs from a cinematic soundscape to a more robust offering from the sea of indie rock music, with layers of guitar that swell and weave with the reverberated vocals. This track is quite an amazing journey and we dare you to try and resist playing it on a loop for days at a time.
If you like what you hear, we highly recommend that you check out the rest of the EP, Satellite People, now available everywhere.
