Adam Fitch - “Before I Died”

From New York, soulful indie-folk artist Adam Fitch makes his debut on the blog with “Before I Died,” a deep and introspective song that is bound to move all who hear.

Just as many folksy numbers often begin with some acoustic guitar, you will find it expertly played at the onslaught of this track. It is delicately and passionately finger-plucked, captured perfectly before being delivered to your ears. “Before I Died” is already quite mesmerizing before the vocal even begins, but once you hear Fitch’s voice, you will be carried away on an ethereal and cinematic ride of heart-shaking storytelling.

Fitch manages to carve his own niche into modern folk music, though there are times when we detect a bit of Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra) in the way that he delivers the lyrics. More elements are added as the song proceeds, including some wide, almost tribal percussion that adds a great deal of weight to the arrangement, firmly pushing it forward. Twists and turns abound over the track’s duration, resulting in a grandiose display of dynamic fluctuation.

A highlight for us, of course, is the well-placed “ooooh” backing vocals, which, again, cause us to reflect upon all of the good songs in the world that would fast become great if they would utilize the same. “Before I Died” is not a song that Fitch simply sat down and recorded in one take; it enters your ears as though a piece of literature that has been carefully and meticulously crafted, ensuring that each listener becomes fully immersed in every glorious detail.
