Prima Apollinaare - ‘Alignment’
“Deeper In Love,” by Prima Apollinaare, is a true pop song in the traditional sense. This track comes from her new EP, Alignment, and Apollinaare’s aim was to capture the essence of falling in love with life again after the pandemic– something that some of us are perhaps still struggling with. The song has upbeat tempo with layers of catchy melodies. The acoustic guitar riff that opens the song is a standout feature and is present throughout. The finger clicks that accompany the guitar at the start get us prepared for the rhythmic drive that is soon accentuated by the drums. The whole drum rhythm, for me, is reminiscent of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”… we all know how catchy that song is, so you all know what I mean when I say this song is catchy. The addition of what I believe to be a zither adds a unique and charming element to the soundscape, blending nicely with the riffing acoustic guitars. It adds depth and dimension to the overall sound. The female vocal is truly remarkable, showcasing an impressive range and delivering the lyrics with passion. The backing vocals are layered, giving the song a sense of width and richness. “Deeper In Love” is a really catchy little song and I think this is an impressive work of art.
Alignment contains several more tracks that should not be overlooked, one of which is called “My Own Fleet.” This one begins a bit like the former, with, at first, just a vibey guitar and Apollinaare’s vocals. It covers some subject matter that has likely crossed many minds– abandoning the world and setting sail. The vastness of the open water has the ability to make all of life’s problems seem less significant. This song more sparsely recorded than “Deeper In Love,” but once those harmonies kick in at around the fifty second mark, the listener will have no problem picturing themselves surrounded by giant waves– be they from the sea or from one’s own emotions. “My Own Fleet” closes Apollinaare’s EP and, quite frankly, we could'n’t have picked a more perfect way to do so.
