Andi Fins - “Too Big to Fail”

German singer-songwriter Andi Fins has just delivered the wonderfully playful “Too Big to Fail.” The track combines passionate melancholy and hope as it explores the value of self-expression.

The song begins on a gentle and reflective note. Piano melodically plays, with the tones softly sustaining and melting into the distance. Drums begin to rhythmically push the song forward. Layers of instruments are used to create a great sense of contrast. The mood of the more serious verses is flipped on the chorus sections through a well developed drum groove and clean electric guitar, which embraces this infectious beat. For the foundation of the song, an upbeat and playful bass line enhances the song’s melody.

Too Big to Fail” is pleasingly stripped-back, with only the addition of tambourine and unusual key sounds sprinkled here and there. This more sparse nature of the arrangement allows the playful vocal performance of Andi Fins to take center stage. The vocal delivery is simply the track’s heart and soul, radiating intimacy and a lightness of tone. The fun and creative falsetto backing vocals serve as the ideal complement and you will get the urge to smile as they punctuate the song. The feel of the vocal delivery, combined with the music, brings to mind the early songs of Paul McCartney’s solo career, blended with that great-but-forgotten band Family.

Too Big to Fail” is superb song by Andi Fins. It is melancholic in places, but also satisfyingly fun and upbeat.
