Amelie Lucille - “Beautiful Creature”
New York City-based singer-songwriter Amelie Lucille brings her vibrant and emotionally-charged craft to the blog with “Beautiful Creature.”
This track is about as stripped-back as they get, consisting primarily of a lone piano and vocal, yet there is something infinitely magical about the soft tones that open “Beautiful Creature.” It is distinctly lo-fi, sounding as though Amelie has simply sat down at a piano, waited for you and your friends to quiet down, then pressed record.
Amelie lets her vocal arrive softly, as though drifting in on a breeze, allowing the piano a bit more time to shine in the spotlight. But at around forty-five seconds into the number, Amelie’s voice arrives in full force, bringing with it all the emotion and confidence of a more seasoned songwriter– you will likely be very surprised to find out that she’s only fifteen.
Listeners shall marvel at the natural and gradual way that the song crescendos, ebbing and flowing with Amelie’s emotive vocal fluctuation. We are picking up some similarities to Billie Eilish, as well as some hints of Fiona Apple, and we are completely convinced that Amelie Lucille will be a household name by the time she graduates high school.
By the song’s midpoint, the distant sound of a synth has been utilized for padding, but a major highlight includes the soft and delicate vocal harmonies– the precise ingredients that push “Beautiful Creature” over the top. These additional layers offer width and depth to an already soul-stirring performance and we truly cannot wait for you to hear it.
