Abby Webster - “Entertainers”
Livingston, Montana-based singer-songwriter Abby Webster returns to the blog with “Entertainers,” the final single from her forthcoming LP.
For those of you who are not already familiar with Webster’s craft, you are in for quite the authentically folksy treat. “Entertainers” first enters the ears with some exquisitely plucked acoustic guitar, carefully strewn across the top of some shimmering, electric chords. The vibe is immediately introspective and nostalgic, bound to resonate with all connoisseurs of genuine indie folk music.
Webster’s vocal arrives, carrying this same, honest-to-goodness weight, delicately revealing vibrant and rural imagery with each line of lyrics. Her voice is left remarkably raw, warmly reminiscent of Sierra Ferrell, Bella White, and Phoebe Bridgers, with absolutely no pandering to the ballyhoo of modern production shenanigans.
As “Entertainers” progresses, it picks up some additional passengers, including the soft, gentle notes of a piano, swelling strings, and the ethereal cries of pedal steel, before eventually expanding to include a flavorful, vintage-tinged rhythm section. It’s the kind of song that feels like a cool, gentle breeze pushing through the open window of your camper van, which is exactly what we needed in the middle of this midwestern heatwave.
